Gorakhpur surgeon killed ex-wife, kept social media running
A well-known Gorakhpur surgeon, Dr Dharmendra Pratap Singh, allegedly murdered his ex-wife Rakhi Srivastava aka Rajeshwari. The murder was committed pushing her off a cliff in Pokhra, Nepal. But he kept her virtually alive for seven months. This was done through a ruse that she was in Assam. He kept updating her social media account before the case unfolded.

The Gorakhpur surgeon had two accomplices. They were Pramod Kumar Singh and Deshdipak Nishad. They were arrested from Daudpur area of Gorakhpur and sent to jail. Initially, Rakhi’s second husband Manish Sinha was nabbed for questioning. That is because her family had filed a case against him after she went missing in June. But later, that trail took the special task force (STF) of UP police to her first husband. And then the case was cracked.
“We arrested the doctor and his two accomplices for killing Rakhi,” said STF IG Amitabh Yash. He added, “Rakhi was missing from Gorakhpur and her brother Amar Prakash Srivastav had lodged missing/kindnapping report with Shahpur police on June 24, 2018 under sections 266, 506 of IPC against Manish, a resident of Gaya in Bihar.”
During the probe, the STF came to know that Manish and Rakhi had certainly gone to Nepal. But Manish had returned while Rakhi stayed back. Because the doctor was also taken into account in the case, his phone call record was checked and it was found that he had been to Nepal during the period when Rakhi went missing. When an STF team visited Pokhra, the local police confirmed that they had recovered a woman’s body during the first week of June. STF identified the body as that of Rakhi’s.
This made Dr Singh a prime suspect. After rigorous interrogation, he confessed to his crime. He killed his ex-wife because she was blackmailing him to get money and property.
